Registering Your Child for Kindergarten

Kindergarten registration is held on the first Friday of the month of May. This year, the first Friday is May 7, 2010. The legal age for kindergarten attendance in the public school system is at least five (5) years of age on or before September 1st. Schools have different procedures for the kindergarten registration process. If you are new to Harford County and have arrived over the summer months, school offices are open 8:00 AM until 4 PM. Register your child as soon as possible during the summer months. Bus routes may be found on the HCPS website. To register your kindergarten age child(ren), all schools require your child's birth certificate, social security card, and immunization records. You will also be required to bring your drivers' license and proof of residency. It is recommended that you contact the elementary school in your area by phone for further information before registering your child.

There is a process for early entrance to kindergarten and advanced placement to 1st grade for age eligible children. Children must be of age by October 15th to be eligible. The application packet contains all deadlines and procedures for the process.

The request for Early Entrance to Kindergarten or Advanced Placement into First Grade may be made beginning the first Friday in May until the first Friday in June of the current school year. Parents should communicate with the school to obtain the application packet and specific procedures for initiating the early admission process.

During the last week in April, kindergarten packets may be picked up in the office or a packet can be sent home with an older sibling. Registration hours on May 7th are 9:30 - 2:30. Bakerfield Elementary	410.273.5518	Registration packages are available in the office after April 1st. Registration is held on May 7th from 9 – 10:50 am and 1:10 – 3 pm in the school cafeteria. If you miss K Registration Day (May 7), you may register your child in the office any school day from 9:00 - 3:00.

Church Creek Elementary	410.273.5550	Registration packages are available after April 15th. These may be picked up in the office by a parent or guardian or a package may be sent home with an older sibling attending the school. On May 7th, parents with last names A-M are asked to arrive at the school between 9 AM and Noon and last names N-Z are asked to arrive between Noon and 3 PM.

Parents with last names A-M should arrive at school between 9 AM and Noon and last names N-Z should arrive between 12:30 and 3:00 PM. If you miss K Registration, you may register in the office any school day from 9:00AM – 3:00PM after May 7.

Emmorton Elementary	410.638.3920	Pre-registration forms for new kindergarten students are sent home with current students in March. The form may also be obtained by contacting the school office. Registration packets, including necessary registration forms and instructions, are mailed to pre-registered students in mid-April. A designated time to register on May 7th s also included in the packet.
Forest Hill Elementary	410.638.4166	Pre-registration Kindergarten Round-Up form is sent home with all current students in March. A pre-registration form may be obtained by calling the office. Registration packages will be mailed or sent home with older siblings mid-April to those that have pre-registered. On May 7th, parents with last names A-F are asked to arrive at the school between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM, last names G-K between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM and the last names L-Z between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM. Registration packages are available at the school office on May 7th.
Forest Lakes Elementary	410.638.4262	Kindergarten Round -Up begins in March. Request a packet by calling the office. Pre-registration information will be sent out in April. Parents who have pre-registered will be given an appointment time for Registration Day. The hours are from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
Fountain Green Elementary	410.638.4220	Notices begin appearing at the end of March for students with older siblings attending the school for pre-registration. Pre-registration forms can be downloaded from the school's website http://www.hcps.org/fountaingreen/. Registration packets are available mid-April for parents to pick up in the school. With the package is a letter that indicates an appointment time for May 8th.
George D. Lisby Elementary At Hillsdale	410.273.5530	Kindergarten registration packets are available the 3rd Monday in April. Pre-Kindergarten packets are available the first Friday in May. Registration for kindergarten and application for prekindergarten begins the first Friday in May. No appointment is necessary.

A letter is also sent out mid-April with pre-registration and registration information. Registration packages are available at the school on May 7th, or call to make an appointment.

A form may also be obtained by contacting the school in March. Registration packets will be mailed to those who have pre-registered and a registration time will be assigned between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:30 pm on Registration Day. Meadowvale Elementary	410.939.6622	Pre-K and Kindergarten registration for the 2010 – 2011 school year will begin on May 7th. Registration is held in our Parks and Recreation room from 9:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. Our Pre-Kindergarten teacher, a Kindergarten teacher, our School Nurse, School Counselor and Principal will be available to answer questions and welcome our newest Meadowvale Mustangs. Two tours of the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classrooms will be scheduled. Please call the school form 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. for information about what items are needed to register your child for school.

After picking up a packet, please call the school at 410-692-7815 to schedule a registration time for May 7th. Registration will be held between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
North Harford Elementary	410.638.3670	Registration for kindergarten will take place 9 AM - 3 PM on May 7th. Appointments are not necessary. Pre-kindergarten application packets will be available beginning at 9 AM on May 7th. Pre-kindergarten applications are not available prior to May 7th.
Prospect Mill Elementary	410.638.3817	Kindergarten registration packets will be mailed or sent home with an older sibling on April 14th to those parents who have pre-registered. On May 7th, parents with last names A-F are asked to register between 9:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., last names G-K between 10:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m., and last names L-Z between 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Registration packets for Kindergarten will be available in the school office on April 19th.

Please note that prekindergarten is extended to children who will be 4 years of age as of September 1, 2010 and who are from families with disadvantaged economic backgrounds, who are homeless, or are in foster care.
