Bel Air High School hosts 2nd Annual Summer Freshmen Roadmap to Success

Bel Air High School hosted its 2nd Annual Summer Freshmen Roadmap to Success sessions during the months of July and August.

This year, Roadmap to Success 2023 was spearheaded by Assistant Principal Dr. Helen Miller and Peer Assistance and Wellness Support (PAWS) sponsors Mrs. Deanna Smith and Mrs. Jill Capozzoli. They, along with PAWS upperclassman, greeted more than 250 incoming freshmen over the five sessions.

The sessions introduced freshmen to the three P’s for high school success – Plan, Prioritize, and Persevere. Participants learned the three P’s through a variety of activities: Scavenger Hunt, Q&A Session with Upperclassmen, 4-Year Course Planning, Weekly Schedule Prioritization, and A Perseverance Discussion.

Principal Gregory Komondor is pleased that the students left the sessions feeling more comfortable and welcomed as part of the Bobcat Family.

"Transitioning from middle school to high school can be challenging,” said Principal Komondor. “The Roadmap to Success sessions not only equip incoming freshmen with skills but also give them a chance to meet many friendly faces - upperclassman and staff - they will be able to recognize the first day of school."

As part of the Scavenger Hunt, each group had their picture taken with Mr. Komondor once they located his office.
