Emmorton Elementary Students Earn Statewide Recognition at MCEE Awards

Three Emmorton Elementary School students and their teacher earned statewide recognition at the Maryland Council on Economic Education's annual awards ceremony, held May 13 at Towson University.

Fifth grader Emma Shin was one of just 20 winners selected from more than 700 entries statewide in MCEE's "A Picture is Worth 1,000 Words Poster Contest," an annual competition that challenges students in grades K-8 to demonstrate their understanding of economic and personal finance concepts through original artwork.

Fifth graders Maya Benchaaboun and Sophia Nguyen were recognized as winners in the Financial Education Month Poetry Contest, performing their winning poem at the ceremony.

Emmorton Elementary School fifth grade teacher Cynethia Sheppard was also recognized at the ceremony, earning honors in the teacher category of the poetry contest.
