Our high school dance courses offer a diverse range of dance styles, including contemporary, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, tap, and cultural
dances. Through a combination of technique classes, choreography workshops, and performance opportunities, we aim to develop
dancers' technical proficiency, artistic expression, and appreciation for dance as an art form. Our comprehensive curriculum fosters
discipline, teamwork, and self-confidence while providing students with a well-rounded dance education.
Dance I
Dance I is an introductory movement course in the fundamentals of ballet, modern, and jazz. Each unit of study includes dance
technique, history, health and injury prevention, written/reading assignments, in-class evaluations, and a final exam. Additional
study includes cultural and social dance forms. There are 2 required performances in the winter and spring dance concerts. No
previous experience is necessary. This course meets the Fine Arts requirements for graduation. There are 2 required performances
in the winter and spring dance concerts.
Dance II
Dance II is offered to students who have successfully completed Dance I or by audition. Units of study include ballet, modern, and
jazz with further instruction in cultural and social forms, history, anatomy, improvisation, and composition. Students will have
written/reading assignments, in-class evaluations, and a final exam. There is one required performance in a dance concert. There
are 2 required performances in the winter and spring dance concerts.
Dance III
Dance III continues the work in ballet, modern, jazz, tap, and hip-hop techniques. Students will continue to focus on the development
of performance skills. Anatomy, dance history, improvisation, and composition will enrich the course of study. Students will
choreograph, teach, and perform original works from a variety of genres. Students will have written/reading assignments, in-class
evaluations, a midterm, and a final exam. There are two required performances in a dance concert. Admission to the course is by
audition or successful completion of Dance II. There are 2 required performances in the winter and spring dance concerts.

The arts are a fundamental part of human culture and identity, shaping every individual and society. They contribute to our economy
and provide meaning to our lives through music, sculptures, dance, animations, and plays. Recognizing the value of the arts, it is
important to provide a well-rounded education that includes arts for all students. The National Core Arts Standards aim to define
artistic literacy, including philosophical foundations, lifelong goals, artistic processes, and performance standards.
