About Us

Facilities Management is responsible for managing resources that are organized to provide a variety of facility and project management related services in the areas of building operations and maintenance, environmental, safety inspections, code compliance, contract administration, project management, work order management and emergency management and response. Through the management of in-house staff and out-sourced contracted services Facilities Management will effectively and efficiently manage the delivery of services associated with the Comprehensive Maintenance Program.

Comprehensive Maintenance Plan

A comprehensive maintenance plan is established to develop, maintain, and/or improve the maintenance program of the public school system to support the delivery of educational programs and services and to provide a safe and healthy environment as effectively and efficiently as possible.

Resource Conservation

Staff within Facilities Management strive to achieve the goals and objectives of the Board as they relate to energy conservation and environmental stewardship; to facilitate responsible conservation practices; to emphasize environmental education curriculum; to allow Harford County Public Schools to comply with current and future regulations relating to energy management and conservation; to establish practices that will be applied to all aspects of HCPS operation to include but not limited to Operations and Facilities Management, Transportation, Planning and Construction, Purchasing, and school-based decisions.

It is the policy of the Board that HCPS shall conduct its business and operations to the extent reasonable and practical, so as to:

  • Explore and implement energy conservation programs
  • Explore the use of renewable energy sources
  • Partner with other government institutions in energy and environmental stewardship programs.
  • Utilize alternative funding approaches to leverage implementation of renewable energy, conservation, recycling projects through partnerships with pricate organziations and other creative funding streategies.
  • Utilize and implement energy usage
  • Utilize the minimum amount of energy

Report a Problem

Facilities Management receives, from schools and offices, approximately 14,500 formal work requests and generates approximately 950 preventive maintenance work orders each year. Minor repairs and replacements can sometimes be handled by the school’s custodial staff.

To provide an orderly means of communication between Facilities Management and the local school community all physical building and grounds maintenance problems should be reported to the school administration for the affected school. A complete list of school administrators and contact information can be found in the attached Schools Directory  .

If, after consulting with the school administration, additional information or action is required, please contact use through the HCPS email contact site, HCPS Contact Form. When prompted for a message subject please select “Reporting a Facilities Problem.” The information below should be provided when reporting the problem. Appropriate central office personnel will be in contact with you within two working days.
