Global Studies Program and International Baccalaureate Program
The Mission of the International Baccalaureate Organization
  • The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
  • To this end, the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment.
  • These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Edgewood High School was authorized as an IB school on November 12 2008, awarded full authorization in the Spring of 2010, and has successfully completed its first set of evaluations in the Spring of 2015.

The first group of students began the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in the Fall of 2010 and the class of 2012 was the first to graduate from this program.

All students currently enrolled in Grade 8 may apply for admission. The admission process is competitive and applications will be evaluated by a selection committee. There are only 50 spots available.

The following criteria will be used:

  • Academic achievement in middle school based on GPA, standardized tests and participation in advanced math courses (Algebra I must be completed prior to entering the program).
  • Demonstrated interest and motivation for learning. This will be documented by teacher recommendations, in-person writing sample, and school and community involvement.
  • An interview of the candidate will also be conducted.
