The HCPS GET More Program was created to get ahead of the national teacher shortage, improve retention, and
enhance teacher diversity. By growing and hiring internal candidates — particularly HCPS support staff
who already live and work in Harford County — the program helps ensure that dedicated and qualified
educators are serving the students of Harford County.
The Growing Exceptional Teachers (GET More) Program offers tuition reimbursement and work-related benefits
to support your journey to becoming a certified teacher. We're investing in your future, so you can return
to HCPS as a valued educator.
Benefits include:
- Tuition Reimbursement

Eligible employees have access to tuition reimbursement at the rate of $300 per credit hour, for
a maximum of 12 credit hours per fiscal year

Program Eligibility
To be eligible for this program, applicants must be current employees of HCPS, specifically members of
HCEA-ESP or AFSCME, and possess at least one year of full-time experience within the school system.
Additionally, they must have secured acceptance into a teaching certificate program, pursuing either a
Bachelor's, Master's, or Post-baccalaureate certification. The teaching program must be a regionally
accredited institution.
Program Guidelines
Participants in this program will commit to fulfilling their student internship requirements within Harford
County Public Schools. To facilitate this, they will be eligible for up to twelve consecutive weeks of paid
leave, allowing them to complete a formal university or college student internship, often known as student
teaching. Furthermore, upon successful completion of the program, and if offered a certificated teaching
position within HCPS, the employee will commit to a three-year employment term with Harford County Public
Schools.
